The Vocal Box was born out of a desire to strengthen music in our surrounding small towns and to allow more opportunities for people to grow their vocal abilities.  I believe EVERY voice is beautiful, you just need to find YOUR beautifully unique voice, learn how to properly grow it, and strengthen it with guided practice to enforce excellent habits to get the most out of your instrument.

If you've never met me, my name is Jessica Ortega.  I've been singing and "performing" since I was 3 years old. My grandpa would put me in front of a microphone and while he accompanied me with his simple 3 chord guitar playing, he would record me singing song after song--classic folk songs, kid songs from church, or my own improvised compositions. Our church frequently had the children perform for the congregation whether it be a solo or ensemble piece, as well as many musicals and a yearly competition. All these opportunities to "practice" singing, helped me grow my voice as well as my stage presence and confidence.
In college I double majored in Voice & Piano so that I could teach Vocal & Instrumental music. After college I taught music in the public schools for a few years, but then ended up staying home with my 4 children while continuing to teach private voice & piano.
As a local music teacher in our small towns, and a lifetime resident of this area, I know how limited music opportunities can be for kids, especially with programs being cut over the years or the reality of limited time within the school schedule.  My hope is that the Vocal Box can be one more outlet for those who love to sing, and a place where you can gain confidence and proficiency as a singer.
Exposure to music, especially excellent music of various styles is so beneficial to a singer.  At the Vocal Box, you or your student will learn proper skills for singing, and enjoy making music with others who are just as passionate about singing.
